The strap is reinforced all the way around creating a more stiff absorption point wherever the bar lands.. In other words, the goal was to get as close to a dead stop as possible but leave you a position to reengage the rep in a more suitable leverage position. Less jump or that sliding movement of the bar once you lay it on the strap. If it jumps or slides less, you can get it back in position for the next rep much quicker.
